Celebrado anualmente en Londres, esta instalación es una de las más importantes muestras de arquitectura actual a nivel mundial. Cada año comisionada a un despacho distinto.

El despacho Counterspace, con base en Johannesburgo, liderado por el trío femenino conformado por Sumayya Vally, Sarah de Villiers y Amina Kaskar fue elegido para diseñar el pabellón del Kensington Gardens en Londres. Estará abierto al público del 11 de junio al 11 de octubre.

2020 PAVILION ANNOUNCEMENT | Designed by Counterspace???? Designed by Johannesburg-based trio @_counterspace, the Pavilion draws inspiration from gathering spaces and community places around London, with particular relevance to migrant and other peripheral communities. It will also include moveable parts that will travel to neighbourhoods across the city for special community events before returning to the structure. In keeping with Hans Ulrich Obrist’s promise that “ecology will be at the heart of everything we do”, the Pavilion will be sustainably built using a variety of materials, including cork and a newly developed material called K-Briq which is made from 90% recycled construction and demolition waste. The lead architect on the project, Sumayya Vally of Counterspace, said of the design: “The pavilion is itself conceived as an event — the coming together of a variety of forms from across London over the course of the Pavilion’s sojourn. These forms are imprints of some of the places, spaces and artefacts which have made care and sustenance part of London’s identity. The breaks, gradients and distinctions in colour and texture between different parts of the Pavilion make this reconstruction and piecing together legible at a glance.
